Discover Affordable Live Music: The Twin Cities’ Hidden Gems for Budget-Conscious Indie Fans
Living on a budget doesn’t mean missing out on live performances of emerging artists in the alternative and indie scene. The Twin Cities offers many affordable options, but you just have to know where to look.
7TH STREET ENTRY – With tickets for as low as $10, this venue is perfect for those on a tight budget. Choosing to pay at the door is key to avoiding online fees. Performers at 7th Street Entry offer their own merchandise, selling stickers for under $5 and CDs for $14. This venue, attached to the historic First Avenue, has a total capacity of only 250 people.
AMSTERDAM BAR & GRILL – Saint Paul’s premier and most versatile music venue, Amsterdam Bar & Grill hosts local artists with tickets averaging $16 in advance. Amsterdam Bar & Grill has 2 stages and an intimate 125-person space. Age restrictions vary on a show-by-show basis, so make sure to check on the venue’s website in advance.
CLUB UNDERGROUND – With DJs and bands playing most nights, Club Underground located on Monroe Street in Minneapolis has advanced tickets for only $8. They tend to choose the most alternative and up-and-coming performers for its audience, with past alternative rap, rock, and indie performances.
ROSE CLUB – This underground basement venue is located in St. Paul and has a total capacity of only 200 people. Price-wise, Rose Club offers tickets for as low as $10 in advance and occasionally only asks for donations. Heart to Gold, Nothing To Do and Pandelion are all bands that have performed at Rose Club.
