Summer concerts may have ended, but the Minneapolis indie music scene continues giving Minnesotans new songs to sing along to. Here are the Local Note’s top four choices from the past month:
“Wide Eyes” (EP) by Wild Lyre released on Aug. 29
Wild Lyre is a five-person band (Keith Wyman, Art Oxborough, Mike Vasich, Dave Dorman and Dan Cordell) that blends psychedelic rock with Americana. Their new EP “Wide Eyes” contains three songs: Wide Eyed, Gone For Good and Fine Line.

”Inside My Mind” by Guytano released on Sept. 22
Guytano (brothers Grant and Eddie Hamilton, Isaac Hesse and Colter Benoit) met in 2010 and have been making music since. Their new single “Inside My Mind” is unapologetic with heavy elements of synth-pop and rock.

“Appetite (Wish You Will)” by Black Velvet Punks released on Sept. 13
The Black Velvet Punks (Taylor Ngiri Seaberg, Traiveon Dunlap, and Roderick Glasper) are just as their name suggests: a smooth jazz punk band with subtle neo-soul vocals. You can hear the variety of genres blend in transitions throughout the group’s newest single “Appetite (Wish You Will).”

“Smoked Out” by Lydia Liza released on Sept. 8
Lydia Liza is best known for her 2016 cover of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” but her true talents as an artist are found throughout her creative projects. “Smoked Out” is a relaxed modern-pop song lifted by Liza’s R&B vocals that concludes with an electronic synth symphony.
