Allison Skarda
Allison Skarda is a second year college student whose cooking methods have been called “unnerving.” However, her food always turns out edible even if there is an explosion of melted cheese across her whole stove. She is pictured here with her beloved plant Esmé. Allison runs the Instagram foodfails_collegedish, chronicling mishaps in the kitchens she witnesses.
Carly Berglund
Carly is a third-year student at the University of Minnesota, making this her third year cooking for herself. Instead of spending her first year in the dorms and being graced with the luxury of a dining hall plan, she spent her freshman year fighting fires (literally) in her first tiny apartment kitchen. She grew up in a tiny suburb and audibly gasped the first time she went into Trader Joe’s during her freshman year. Now, she tries new (to her) products from TJ’s all on her Instagram @carlyandtraderjoes.
Hanna Van Den Einde
Hanna is a fourth-year student at the University of Minnesota and will graduate in Spring 2023. She began learning how to provide for herself in 2019 when she started college. She quickly learned how to cook, clean and shop while living on her own. Her go-to grocery store is Trader Joe’s and she loves a tasty meal that can be made with simple ingredients at a low cost. Willem Gokemeijer
Willem is a fourth-year at the University of Minnesota and will graduate in Spring 2023. It’s been a bumpy road but he’s learned how to cook for himself through trial and error. He recommends Aldi as his grocery store of choice. When he isn’t attempting to cook, he’s probably running or watching sports and movies.
